Founded in 1871 Weir Minerals is a global manufacturer, specialising in making process pumping equipment for the mining, aggregates and general industry sectors. They work with companies like British Steel and British Sugar and has a global reputation for manufacturing some of the best products in the mining market.

When the company outgrew its existing UK headquarters in nearby Todmorden, West Yorkshire, they decided to open a dedicated service and training centre at Kingsway. Parts from Weir Minerals’ multiple European offices are now sent to the 1,100 sq metre facility, which can accommodate three metre high pumps that weigh up to 16 tonnes. Immediate access to the motorway network was vital.

Regional sales director Paul Marshall said: “We’d outgrown our Todmorden site and needed more space for a service centre. We needed a location that was close to Todmorden, with first class transport links and Kingsway ticked all the boxes with incredible motorway access. Because we have a presence in 15 countries in Europe our close proximity to Manchester Airport is really important in terms of the environment because we keep our travel times to a minimum. It’s worked out really well for us. The new building is modern and airy, which suits our requirements and has given us the space we need to focus on expanding the range of services we can provide to our customers. The new facility is big enough to accommodate cranes which means we can handle bigger products.”

Mr Marshall said the Kingsway facility was more than just a service centre. “We’re digitalising a lot of our business and Kingsway is home to our state-of-the-art digital control centre,” he said. “It’s also a training centre for service staff. We’re growing all the time. We had a strong 2021 and as we grow we’ll look to put more people into the facility. It’s an exciting time for the business.”

Logistics are key to the ongoing success of our business and the park’s direct link to the M62 motorway was a major factor in our decision to relocate as our main distribution centre.

Logic gives us the space and facilities required to move ahead with our business plan. Most importantly, the location next to the M62, allows for the speedier fulfilment of orders.
